In part five, I feel I have gained a whole lot of knowledge of orchestration. I feel that the more I orchestrate, the easier it becomes. At the beginning of the module, it was quite challenging to imagine all the sounds of the instruments of the orchestra. However, with practice and the usage of the imagination, scoring without sound seems to start to come as second nature. Studying the different world orchestras has also enlightened me to a new world of opportunity. I now feel far more empowered and formally educated in the art of orchestration. I have received many tools and devices to compose, orchestrate, and arrange pieces. I understand there is a lot more I need to learn regarding orchestration and arrangement. However, this module has given me a great deal of knowledge. Orchestration, as learned, is an art with no set rules, perhaps like music theory. However, similar to music theory, the material learnt is the base to start my orchestration to a new level. One drawback is my lack of experience and contact with orchestras or ensembles. Perhaps it will be a good time to begin research on ensembles or youth orchestras from organisations to perform my compositions.
