Chords and the Harmonic series

For this exercise, I sat at the piano, and I selected chord C7 just to keep things simple. I performed the notes C E G B in that order, which sounded satisfactory. However, when arranged according to the harmonic series, C G E B, I noticed an increase in clarity and ‘harmonic’ or consonant resonation. A similar effect happened when I re-arranged the chord Bb7, Bb Db F Ab. The result Bb F Db Ab was so clear and elegant that it delivered the inspiration to compose some ideas for a future solo piano composition. This experiment brings a new light to my compositions, and I will apply it to orchestral and piano solo works.
