Reflection assignment 1

My arrangement is successful as it provides the excitement and emotions the Piano can’t provide due to the application of additional techniques and performance directions. Although some notes were doubled or omitted, the structure, harmonic progression and phrasing were loyal to the original. I tried to employ all the resources that made the piece coherent, like pizzicato, staccato, and accents. Perhaps the addition of extended techniques would have been beneficial. However, I felt it would not be appropriate according to the emotions the original piece delivers. In addition to using all the instruments, I have modified the textures in some sections. By doing a structural analysis of the original piece, I gained a clear picture of the location of the sections, phrases, harmonic dissonance and repetition of themes, so I could apply it to my arrangement. The end of bar 4 in the piano has a quaver silence as in some other end phrases. However, due to the pedal down, the sound reverberates and therefore doesn’t die so quickly as in the string arrangement, so I had to elongate the final notes to create that effect.
